Trump announced that the U.S. and Japan have reached a major trade agreement, with Japan agreeing to a 15% tariff rate and committing $550 billion in investments to the U.S. The deal includes Japan opening its markets for automobiles, trucks, rice, and other goods, with the U.S. expected to gain 90% of the profits.

According to China Central Television News, on July 22 local time, U.S. President Donald Trump announced via social media that the United States and Japan had reached a trade agreement, which includes a 15% tariff rate on Japanese imports and a pledge of $550 billion in investments by Japan into the United States.

Trump posted on the Truth Social platform, stating: “We have just reached a major agreement with Japan—possibly the largest deal ever.” In the post, he stated that Japan would open its domestic trade sectors, including automobiles, trucks, rice, and certain other agricultural products and goods, while committing to invest $550 billion in the United States. Trump further claimed that the U.S. would receive 90% of the profits from this agreement.

The Japanese yen responded to the announcement by strengthening. As of publication time, the yen had fully retraced its earlier gains against the U.S. dollar, having risen as much as 0.3% to 146.25
