Tesla, Inc. (TSLA.US) has had its application for the "Robotaxi" trademark rejected: the name is too generic.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office rejected Tesla's application to register the term "Robotaxi" as its vehicle trademark, citing that the name is too generic.
According to reports, a new document shows that the United States Patent and Trademark Office rejected Tesla, Inc.'s application to register the term "Robotaxi" as a vehicle trademark, citing the reason that the trademark name is too generic. Tesla, Inc.'s other application to register the term "Robotaxi" as a trademark for its upcoming ride-hailing service is still under review by the agency. In addition, due to other companies applying for similar "Cyber" trademarks, Tesla, Inc.'s application for the "Cybercab" trademark has been halted.
The US Patent and Trademark Office issued a so-called "non-final review decision" on Tuesday regarding the "Robotaxi" trademark application, which means Tesla, Inc. has three months to respond, or else the agency will abandon the application.
It is reported that Tesla, Inc. applied for these trademarks in October 2024, with the hope of using them in its planned autonomous ride-hailing service in the future. Tesla, Inc. also submitted two similar "Robobus" trademark applications on October 10th last year, which are still under review.
