Industrial released a research report stating that in recent years, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has continued to be an important destination for Chinese companies to expand overseas, and directly establishing production capacity abroad has become a new mode of going global. In terms of the amount of foreign direct investment, China's investment in ASEAN countries has been steadily increasing, especially after the escalation of the US-China trade conflict in 2018, the trend of increasing investment in ASEAN countries has accelerated, making ASEAN increasingly important for Chinese companies to establish overseas production capacity and mitigate trade risks. Looking at specific countries, China's direct investment in countries such as Singapore, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Thailand has increased significantly in recent years. With Trump's announcement of postponing the plan to impose tariffs on other countries and the principle of "origin penetration," the effect of directly establishing production capacity overseas becomes more advantageous in mitigating risks. Focusing on key regions in the reshaping of the global supply chain, namely Southeast Asia (including Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia), India, and Mexico, a systematic review of the announcements of listed companies that have set up subsidiaries/production bases overseas since 2010 shows that the pace of Chinese A-share listed companies expanding overseas has accelerated in recent years. Even with some disturbances in 2020-2021, it is difficult to change the overall trend. In terms of secondary industries, industries such as specialized machinery, consumer electronics, automotive components, general equipment, electrical power equipment, and communication equipment currently have a more comprehensive overseas production capacity layout, indicating a stronger resilience to risks in the future.
