President Trump said he does not want to see the United States Steel Corporation (X.US) owned by a Japanese company, after which the stock price of United States Steel Corporation plummeted by 16% in after-hours trading, narrowing to 11% by the time of publication. Trump pointed out in the Oval Office speech that the increasing steel orders of the company demonstrate that it currently does not need any investment. He also stated that he does not want the United States Steel Corporation to be acquired by "anywhere else", apparently referring to other foreign buyers. In recent days, investors pushed the stock price of United States Steel Corporation to its highest level since March 2024, hoping that Trump could reverse the decision of the former President Biden to stop the acquisition of this American company by New Japan Steel. On Monday, Trump ordered another national security review of the proposed deal, giving the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States 45 days to complete the transaction. However, Trump repeatedly stated that he does not want New Japan Steel to hold a majority stake in the company. Trump said, "What I mean is, if you go back 90 years and look at the United States Steel Corporation, it's incredible, it was the number one company in the world for a long time. That's why we don't want to see it go to Japan, we love Japan, but United States Steel Corporation is a very special company."
