HSBC Bank released a forecast on Tuesday stating that before the end of President Trump's term (January 20, 2029), the cryptocurrency Ripple (XRP) may skyrocket by more than ten times, reaching $12.50 per coin.
Since the pro-cryptocurrency Trump won the election in November last year, the token has risen sixfold. Market expectations for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to withdraw the lawsuit against Ripple Labs, the issuer of Ripple, and the rush of asset management companies to launch Ripple-based ETFs have jointly driven this surge.
However, due to the increasing uncertainty of federal government policies, especially regarding trade policies, offsetting the market's optimism for the Trump administration's support for cryptocurrencies, Ripple has still fallen by about 18% this year.
Nevertheless, HSBC Bank analyst Geoff Kendrick believes that the uptrend of Ripple since the end of last year is sustainable. He pointed out that the change in leadership at the SEC is positive for the industry, and Ripple holds a core position in the rapidly growing field of cross-border payments.
"Ripple's ledger (XRPL) is similar to stablecoins like Tether (USDT) in that they both use blockchain to facilitate financial transactions processed by traditional financial institutions," Kendrick wrote in a report to clients. "Over the past two years, the application scale of stablecoins has grown by an average of 50% per year, and we expect transaction volume to increase tenfold in the next four years." It is reported that stablecoins are a type of cryptocurrency that maintains value by anchoring to stable assets such as the dollar.
Kendrick predicts that by the end of 2025, Ripple will rise to $5.50 (an increase of approximately 190% from the current price), reach $8 by the end of 2026, surpass $10.40 by the end of 2027, and ultimately reach the target price of $12.50 by the end of 2028.
On the same day, Ripple announced its acquisition of the multi-asset brokerage firm Hidden Road for $1.25 billion, a move that is expected to strengthen its position in the stablecoin field. As of the time of writing, Ripple is trading at $1.81, with a decrease of over 2% on the day.
