Apple concept stocks rebounded. As of press time, COWELL (01415) rose 6.27% to HK$17.96; FIH (02038) rose 5.88% to HK$0.72; Q TECH (01478) rose 3.11% to HK$5.96; AAC TECH (02018) rose 5% to HK$34.65; and Sunny Optical (02382) rose 2.08% to HK$56.55. On the news front, according to informed sources, Apple plans to export more iPhones from India to the United States to offset the high costs of tariffs. These adjustments are seen as a temporary measure by Apple to seek tariff exemptions from the Trump administration. Apple CEO Tim Cook had previously obtained such exemptions during Trump's first term. The sources mentioned above stated that Apple believes the current situation is too uncertain, and therefore, it will not disrupt its long-term investments in the supply chain. According to Huatai, mainland China is still the main production base for Apple iPhones. Barron's reported that India has been able to localize production of major models, including the iPhone 16 Pro, but production capacity is still limited. Under the US "equal tariff" policy, mainland China and India bear 54% and 26% tariffs, respectively. Even if it is assumed that China and India supply 50% of the US market demand each, this would still result in a $240 tariff burden for Apple per unit. If this cost is entirely passed on to consumers, it would increase the price of Apple phones in North America by 24%, resulting in a tariff burden of approximately $16 billion.
