On March 31st, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that in March, the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for the manufacturing sector was 50.5%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a continued recovery in the manufacturing sector. From the classification index perspective, out of the 5 classification indexes that make up the manufacturing PMI, the Production Index, New Orders Index, and Supplier Delivery Time Index were above the critical point, while the Raw Materials Inventory Index and Employment Index were below the critical point.
The Production Index was 52.6%, an increase of 0.1 percentage points from the previous month, indicating an acceleration in manufacturing production activities.
The New Orders Index was 51.8%, an increase of 0.7 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a continued improvement in market demand for the manufacturing industry.
The Raw Materials Inventory Index was 47.2%, an increase of 0.2 percentage points from the previous month but still below the critical point, indicating a narrowing of the decline in the main raw materials inventory for the manufacturing sector.
The Employment Index was 48.2%, a decrease of 0.4 percentage points from the previous month, indicating a slight decline in the labor situation for manufacturing enterprises.
The Supplier Delivery Time Index was 50.3%, a decrease of 0.7 percentage points from the previous month but still above the critical point, indicating a continued acceleration in the delivery time of raw materials suppliers for the manufacturing sector.
In conclusion, the overall PMI output index for March was 51.4%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points from the previous month, indicating an overall acceleration in the expansion of production and operation activities for Chinese enterprises.
