US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that the Federal Reserve should change its policy stance after a government agency revised US employment data to show weakening hiring activity in the year leading up to March. "They should do that, let's see if they do," Mnuchin said on Tuesday when asked if the Fed should readjust. He quoted a famous economist John Maynard Keynes saying, "When the facts change, I change my mind what do you do?" Revised employment data showed that nonfarm payrolls were revised down by 911,000 in the 12 months leading up to March. Mnuchin said in a speech a few hours later that the new facts prove that the facts we have are not complete. Earlier on Tuesday, the Treasury Secretary posted on X that the economic situation inherited by President Trump was much worse than reported, mentioning that the Fed was correct in suppressing economic growth with high interest rates.
