Japanese 7-11 convenience stores introduce work robots to address labor shortages.
On Tuesday, 7-Eleven introduced work robots at a convenience store in Tokyo, Japan. This pilot program is part of Japan's push for automation due to a shortage of labor. One robot will be responsible for restocking bottled drinks and canned alcoholic beverages, while others will clean the store's floors and windows. The purpose of this initiative is to assist store owners who are struggling with labor shortages and rising wage costs. The convenience store also introduced a remote service screen for customers to receive remote assistance and reduce the workload of overnight cashiers. Additionally, another pilot project has been launched by 7-Eleven in Japan, using delivery robots to transport goods from the store to customers' homes.
