The integration format of "Sports+" continues to deepen, and various niche trend sports are on the rise.
On the afternoon of September 9th, the State Council Information Office held a policy briefing, where officials from the General Administration of Sport, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Commerce introduced policy measures related to the "Opinions on Further Promoting the High-Quality Development of the Sports Industry to Unleash the Potential of Sports Consumption."
Director Yang Xuedong of the Sports Economy Department of the General Administration of Sports stated that in recent years, the sports industry in China has been flourishing, with the scale of sports consumption continuously expanding and the structure constantly upgrading. New formats are rapidly emerging, making it a new highlight driving economic growth. The market size is growing rapidly. With the promotion of the "Healthy China" strategy and the national fitness trend, sports consumption has expanded from traditional sports apparel, shoes, equipment, and other goods to include fitness and leisure activities, event watching, sports tourism, and other service consumptions.
In the first half of this year, sales of sports and entertainment products from large-scale enterprises increased by 22.2% year-on-year. More than 500 key sports events monitored in Fujian, Sichuan, Guangxi, and other areas have driven an average consumption of over 30 million yuan per event. The consumption structure has been optimized and upgraded. Event activities, sports training, and sports relaxation have become new hotspots for consumption.
From July 6th to September 2nd, the "ZheBA" has hosted 280 events, attracting nearly 920,000 spectators and generating ticket revenue of over 7.1 million yuan, driving sports and related consumption to over 1 billion yuan. Niche trendy sports such as frisbee, the "new third board," rock climbing, skiing, and cross-country running are on the rise, stimulating the market for related equipment and training.
During the 2024-2025 snow and ice season, national skiing resorts received a cumulative flow of 256 million visitors, an increase of 13.5% year-on-year, and generated an on-site consumption amount of 78.613 billion yuan. By 2024, online outdoor sports consumption is estimated to reach around 200 million times, with a total consumption exceeding 300 billion yuan.
