LG Chem announced in a press release that Toyota Tsusho Corporation of Japan has acquired a 25% stake in its Gumi cathode material factory (LG-HY BCM), making it the second largest shareholder. Toyota Tsusho is a comprehensive trading company of the Toyota Group and is a core company responsible for purchasing raw materials for Toyota automobiles. With Toyota Tsusho's participation, the shareholding structure of LG Chem's Gumi cathode material factory has changed to: LG Chem 51%, Toyota Tsusho 25%, and Toyota Cobalt Co., Ltd. from 49% to 24%. This allows Toyota Tsusho to meet the newly established PFE standard and comply with the IRAs regulations. Therefore, Toyota Tsusho plans to supply its cathode material produced at the Gumi cathode material factory to battery customers in North America.
