During the period of the 14th Five-Year Plan, the quality of the country's aquatic ecological environment continued to improve.

According to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China will vigorously fight to protect clean water and focus on the protection and construction of beautiful rivers and lakes. The central government has allocated a total of 124.5 billion yuan for water pollution prevention and control, supporting over 6,000 key engineering projects, and promoting the continuous improvement of water ecological environment quality. From January to July this year, the proportion of surface water monitoring sections with excellent water quality nationwide reached 88.9%, an increase of 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous year, surpassing the target of 85% set for the 14th Five-Year Plan period. It is expected to achieve a "ten consecutive increase" since the 13th Five-Year Plan by the end of this year. As of the first half of this year, the proportion of eliminated black and odorous water bodies in county-level cities nationwide exceeded 90%, and the effectiveness of black and odorous water body governance in prefecture-level and above cities has been further consolidated and improved.
