Research shows that Italy may have difficulty achieving its green goals by 2030.
A study released on Saturday pointed out that Italy may not be able to achieve the carbon emission reduction target agreed at the EU level due to the lagging progress in key green transition areas such as renewable energy generation and energy storage systems. The report, jointly written by energy group Edison and think tank TERNA Group, stated that Italy has delayed deployment of renewable energy and energy storage infrastructure by 10 years as compared to expected. This could result in the country failing to achieve the EU's 2030 decarbonization target. The study estimated that if pumped storage energy is combined with advanced nuclear power generation and carbon capture technology, Italy could potentially increase its economic output by 190 billion euros by 2050.
