The EU fines Google 2.95 billion euros for antitrust violations.
On September 5th, the European Commission announced a 2.95 billion euro antitrust fine against Google, stating that its profitable advertising technology business engaged in anti-competitive behavior. The European Commission stated that Google favored its own online display technology services, harming competitors and online publishers, and has been abusing its market power since 2014. The European Commission demanded that Google stop this self-preferential behavior and take measures to eliminate its inherent conflicts of interest. The company has 60 days to inform the European Commission of its plan to comply with this order.
