A tropical depression formed in the eastern South China Sea will strengthen into the 16th typhoon of the year on the 7th.

On September 5th, it was learned from the Hainan Provincial Meteorological Observatory that the tropical disturbance originally located in the eastern South China Sea had strengthened to a tropical depression at 20:00 on the 5th, with its center located at 17.5 degrees north latitude and 118.8 degrees east longitude, in the eastern South China Sea about 760 kilometers southeast of Zhuhai, Guangdong. The maximum wind near the center is at force 7. It is expected that the tropical depression will move west-northwestward at a speed of 10-15 kilometers per hour, gradually increasing in intensity, and may become the 16th typhoon of the year on the 7th. Influenced by this, from the night of the 5th to the 9th, the wind force will increase to 6-8, gusts 9-10 near the northern part of the South China Sea, the eastern sea of Hainan Island, and the Paracel and Spratly Islands; the wind force will gradually increase to 5-6, gusts will be 7-8 in the western and southern sea of Hainan Island, the Qiongzhou Strait, and the northern part of the Gulf of Tonkin. There will be showers and thunderstorms in Hainan Island, with locally heavy to torrential rain. In addition, ships operating at sea are reminded to avoid areas with strong winds.
