United Nations investigation team: Sudan Rapid Support Forces committed crimes against humanity.
On September 5th, local time, an independent investigation team authorized by the United Nations released a report stating that the Sudan Rapid Support Forces had committed crimes against humanity in the armed conflict in Sudan. The report pointed out that during the siege of the capital of North Darfur State in western Sudan, the Sudan Rapid Support Forces committed numerous crimes against humanity, including mass killings of civilians, sexual violence and gender-based violence, looting and destruction of civilian facilities, and genocide. The report also noted that the Sudanese armed forces had committed war crimes during the conflict. On April 15, 2023, armed conflict erupted between the Sudanese armed forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the capital Khartoum, and the conflict subsequently spread to other regions. The ongoing armed conflict for more than two years has resulted in nearly 30,000 deaths and over 12 million people displaced. Since May 2024, the two sides have been engaged in a continuous struggle for control over Fashir.
