Nippon Steel reached a settlement with American labor unions, resolving legal disputes related to the acquisition of American steel companies.
On Wednesday, Nippon Steel announced that it had reached a settlement agreement with the United Steelworkers union and steel manufacturer Cleveland-Cliffs, resolving all legal disputes related to the acquisition of the US Steel Corporation. The settlement agreement includes the withdrawal of lawsuits filed by Nippon Steel and its North American subsidiaries against the chairperson of the United Steelworkers union, David McCall, as well as the withdrawal of unfair labor practice charges filed by the union against US Steel Corporation with the National Labor Relations Board. The settlement agreement also drops claims against Cleveland-Cliffs and its CEO Lorenzo Goncalves, who had opposed the deal.
