A ruling released on Tuesday showed that an administrative court in Italy has reduced the 1.13 billion euro fine imposed by the country's competition watchdog on Amazon in 2021. Previously, the watchdog accused Amazon of abusing its dominant market position. The Lazio administrative court upheld the main findings of the watchdog's investigation, but explicitly stated that the fine amount should be recalculated. The court pointed out that the watchdog failed to sufficiently justify the additional 50% "discretionary fine", noting that this practice lacked a reasonable basis. Currently, the adjusted specific fine amount has not been disclosed in the ruling. It is estimated that if the additional 50% portion is deducted from the initial 1.13 billion euro fine, the final fine amount may be reduced to approximately 750 million euros.
