According to CCTV News, European Council President Costa acknowledged in a speech on September 1st that many Europeans feel frustrated and believe that the European Union is too passive in its trade with the United States and in the Ukraine issue. Costa stated that the EU does not welcome tariffs and that the US must understand that the EU will always defend its sovereignty and the interests of its citizens and businesses. Costa also stated that the EU is in the process of building stronger trade and industrial partnerships globally, not only to promote trade but also to improve predictability and flexibility and reduce strategic dependencies.
