An outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza has occurred in southwest England.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Animal and Plant Health Agency of the United Kingdom issued a joint statement on August 31, saying that there is an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 in the southwest of England. The statement said that on the same day, a farm near Devon in southwest England confirmed an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1. A 3-kilometer protection zone and a 10-kilometer surveillance zone have been established around the farm, and all poultry on the farm will be culled. The statement also said that since the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in England in November last year, 80 cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks have been found across the UK.
