"National standards for desks and chairs for primary and secondary school students during lunch break are introduced."
The General Administration of Market Supervision has approved the release of the national standard "Technical Requirements for Desks and Chairs for Primary and Middle School Students' Nap," which will be officially implemented on February 1, 2026. The standard requires that the sizes of desks and chairs for nap should balance comfort for studying and resting. During classes, the height of primary school desks should be between 455mm and 730mm, and the height of middle school desks should be between 565mm and 790mm. The seat width of chairs should be at least 360mm to ensure proper sitting posture. During nap time, the chairs should be able to recline into a lying position, with a total length of not less than 1050mm, the backrest reclining to above 135, the headrest width and length reaching at least 180mm and 100mm respectively, the place for legs to rest being at least 250mm wide and 100mm long, allowing students to stretch out and sleep comfortably. The space under the desks is also important, with the net height difference between the desk bottom and seat not less than 110mm for primary school desks and not less than 150mm for middle school desks, allowing for leg movement and preventing discomfort from curling up during nap time.
