European major stock indices closed mostly lower.

The German DAX 30 index closed down 0.32% at 23961.66 points, with a cumulative drop of about 0.4% for the month of August. The French stock index closed down 0.59%, the Italian stock index closed down 0.39%, the bank index dropped 0.34%, and the UK stock index closed down 0.11%.
