The three largest state-owned airlines have yet to turn their losses around, reporting a combined loss of nearly 4.8 billion in the first half of the year.
China Eastern Airlines released its semi-annual report tonight, reporting a net loss of 1.431 billion yuan attributable to shareholders of the listed company, a significant decrease compared to the 2.768 billion yuan in the same period last year, making it the airline with the least amount of loss among the three major airlines. In addition, Air China reported a loss of 1.806 billion yuan in the first half of the year, while China Southern Airlines reported a loss of 1.533 billion yuan, bringing the total losses of the three major state-owned airlines to 4.77 billion yuan.
