Three European countries urge the European Union to further pressure Israel.
The Netherlands, Sweden, and Slovenia recently called on the European Union to further pressure Israel to take stronger action on the Gaza situation. According to the report by the Dutch Broadcasting Corporation on the 28th, Dutch Foreign Minister and Defense Minister Lu Ben Brackmans and Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malme Steinar Gad jointly wrote to the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Carlos. They stated that due to the "intolerable" humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the continued expansion of settlements in the West Bank, the EU "must take more action to make Israel change its practices and fulfill its obligations under international law." The two foreign ministers suggested in the letter that the EU should impose sanctions on "extremist Israeli ministers who promote illegal settlement activities and openly oppose the 'two-state solution' through negotiations" and take additional sanctions against Israeli "violent" settlers in the West Bank. They pointed out that "the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains extremely worrying and intolerable, and the suffering of civilians is indescribable in words," emphasizing that humanitarian aid must be able to enter Gaza unhindered.
