Ford Motor Company of South Africa plans to lay off more than 470 employees in order to adjust production capacity.

The South African trade union Solidarity said on Thursday that Ford South Africa plans to lay off more than 470 people to adjust production capacity to meet current and future market demands. The affected positions include 391 operator positions at the Silverton car assembly plant in Pretoria, 73 positions at the Struandale engine plant in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), and 10 administrative positions. Ford South Africa confirmed the layoffs in a statement and stated that necessary adjustments to production operations at the two plants are underway.
