Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department: The Hong Kong government aims to stop using coal for daily electricity generation by 2035 or earlier.
According to the Securities Times APP, on August 27th, the Secretary for the Environment of Hong Kong, Wong Kam-sing, attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Energy Ministers Meeting in Busan, South Korea. Wong Kam-sing pointed out that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is committed to halving Hong Kong's carbon emissions from the 2005 levels by 2035, and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. The Hong Kong SAR Government has set a target to stop using coal for daily power generation by 2035 or earlier, and to increase the proportion of zero-carbon energy in the fuel mix for power generation to around sixty to seventy percent.
