In response to US threats, the EU reiterated its right to establish digital policies.
After the Trump administration threatened to retaliate with tariffs against foreign digital regulations, the European Union responded firmly on the 26th, emphasizing the EU's right to independently establish and enforce its digital regulatory policies. Paula Pinho, a spokesperson for the European Commission, said at the regular press conference on the same day that regulating domestic economic activities is a sovereign right of the EU and its member states, which is not covered by the framework agreement of the EU-US trade agreement; the two are completely different issues. Meanwhile, Nathalie Reny, spokesperson for the European Commission's technology department, emphasized that EU digital legislation is neutral, the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act apply to all platforms operating in the EU, not specifically targeting American companies.
