Lutenik: The US government is considering holding potential stakes in companies in the defense and other industries.
Previously, the United States obtained a 10% stake in chip manufacturer Intel through an unconventional trade. Commerce Secretary Lutnick stated that the government is focusing on the defense sector and other industries, exploring the possibility of holding potential stakes in related companies. On Tuesday, when asked if this administration is considering similar arrangements with companies benefiting from government policies in defense and other sectors, Lutnick said, "Oh, there is a very heated discussion about the defense sector right now." Lutnick specifically mentioned Lockheed Martin, stating that most of the company's revenue comes from the U.S. government. He said, "Essentially, this company is a branch of the U.S. government." He added, "This question will be left to the Secretary of Defense and the Deputy Secretary of Defense to answer. They are looking into it and thinking about it. But I can tell you, there are many questions that need to be explored further about how we fund ammunition purchases."
