The Portuguese National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority said that the forest fire that has been burning in the central region of the country for 11 days was brought under control on the 24th, but nearly a thousand firefighters remained on standby on the 25th to prevent the largest forest fire in the country's history from reigniting. The fire covered an area of 64,451 hectares.
