The Water Resources Department of Gansu Province has launched a Level IV emergency response for flood defense in 12 cities and prefectures including Zhangye.
Affected by cold air and the warm and humid airflow on the edge of the subtropical high pressure, there will be continuous precipitation in Gansu Province from the 25th to the 28th. The precipitation in the Hexi Corridor will mainly occur from the afternoon of the 25th to the daytime of the 27th, with heavy to torrential rain in some areas of the Qilian Mountains, the northern and southern parts of Wuwei. The precipitation in the Hedong region will mainly occur from the night of the 25th to the 28th, with heavy to torrential rain in some areas of Gannan, Linxia, Dingxi, the southern part of Baiyin, the southern part of Lanzhou, the western part of Pingliang, the northern part of Qingyang, the western part of Tianshui, and the northern part of Longnan, accumulating 70-90 mm of rainfall, with a maximum of 100-140 mm. This weather system will have the characteristics of long duration, large cumulative rainfall, and overlapping with previous precipitation, potentially leading to floods in small and medium-sized rivers, flash floods, and urban and rural waterlogging disasters. The Provincial Department of Water Resources has decided to activate a level IV emergency response for flood prevention in Zhangye, Wuwei, Jinchang, Lanzhou, Baiyin, Gannan, Linxia, Dingxi, Pingliang, Qingyang, Tianshui, Longnan, and the Lanzhou New Area starting from 2 pm on August 25th.
