The US Treasury Department cancels the sanctions regulations against Syria.
On August 25th, local time, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control announced that it has issued final rules to officially remove the Syria Sanctions Regulations from the Federal Register. This move is consistent with Executive Order 14312 signed by President Trump on June 30th of this year, which explicitly states the revocation of sanctions against Syria. The U.S. Treasury Department stated that this revision has been submitted to the Federal Register for public viewing and will officially take effect on August 26th. This means that the legal framework for U.S. sanctions against Syria has been repealed. According to the U.S. Treasury Department, the lifting of sanctions does not mean a complete relaxation, as the U.S. will continue to hold accountable those involved in "war crimes, human rights violations, and drug trafficking networks" through new regulatory frameworks.
