According to Zhitong Finance APP, on August 25, Cui Dongshu stated that from January to July 2025, the import of cars decreased by 32% to 270,000 units, which is a significant decline rarely seen in recent years. Among them, 50,000 imported cars were in July, a 29% decrease compared to the previous year, but an increase of 16% compared to June. Since reaching the peak of 1.43 million imported cars in 2014, the import growth rate slightly stabilized in 2016-2017, but has been continuously declining since 2018. In 2023, imports sharply decreased to only 800,000 units for the whole year, a 10% decrease from the previous year. In 2024, imports continued to sharply decrease, with only 700,000 cars imported for the whole year, a 12% decrease from the previous year. Currently, from January to July 2025, 270,000 cars have been imported, a 32% decrease compared to the previous year, indicating significant pressure on the shrinking import of cars.
