According to a report from the Russian news agency TASS on the 25th, Iranian Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali, expressed hope to start receiving natural gas from Russia in the near future. Jalali stated that Iran is currently in negotiations with Gazprom, the Russian natural gas company, and that only the issue of pricing has not yet reached a consensus. During Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh's visit to Russia in April, discussions were held with Russia on various economic and trade cooperation projects, including Russia supplying natural gas to Iran and developing energy projects such as oil fields in Iran. Russian Energy Minister Sergei Lavrov stated in April that Russia may supply Iran with 18 billion cubic meters of natural gas this year. It is reported that Iran has the second largest proven natural gas reserves in the world, second only to Russia. However, due to sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran, there has been insufficient domestic development of natural gas in Iran.
