According to a report by the Russian news agency TASS on the 25th, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali expressed hopes to begin receiving natural gas from Russia in the near future. Jalali stated that Iran is currently in negotiations with Gazprom, the Russian natural gas company, and the only issue that has not reached a consensus is the pricing. During Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zanganeh's visit to Russia in April, Iran discussed various economic and trade cooperation projects with Russia, including Russia supplying natural gas to Iran and developing energy projects in Iranian oil fields. Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak previously stated in April that Russia may supply 1.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Iran in the year. It is reported that Iran has the world's second largest proven natural gas reserves, second only to Russia. However, due to US sanctions on Iran, there has been insufficient development of natural gas within the country.
