Several media outlets recently released the on-site video of a Malaysian Royal Air Force F/A-18D "Hornet" fighter jet crashing at the Gongdan Air Force Base in Pahang state on the evening of the 21st of this month. The video shows the aircraft experiencing an explosion at the tail shortly after takeoff, followed by a large amount of sparks. Another video recorded a fireball rising in the distance after the crash. Previous reports indicated that the two pilots ejected safely during the crash. The F/A-18D "Hornet" is a fighter jet developed by the American McDonnell Douglas Corporation (now Boeing) and has been sold to multiple countries in addition to being used by the US military. Its subsequent improved models, the F/A-18E and F variants, are currently widely used by the US Navy and have recently been involved in multiple accidents.
