Ministry of Commerce: National online retail sales increased by 9.2% from January to July, with trade-in becoming a driving force.
The person in charge of the e-commerce department of the Ministry of Commerce introduced the development of e-commerce in China from January to July 2025. From January to July, China's e-commerce continued to develop healthily, effectively boosting consumption, promoting industrial digital transformation, and injecting new impetus into international economic and trade cooperation for mutual benefit. Actions such as cultivating high-quality e-commerce and enhancing digital consumption were implemented in depth, adding new vitality to expanding domestic demand. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, online retail sales nationwide increased by 9.2% from January to July, with online retail sales of physical goods increasing by 6.3%. Digital products and trade-ins of old for new became driving forces, with online sales of computers, smart wearables, and mobile phones growing by 29.9%, 28.4%, and 20.3% respectively, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce. Service consumption grew rapidly, with online sales of tourism, catering, and entertainment increasing by 24.8%, 16.6%, and 11% respectively. Efforts to aid foreign trade expansion and domestic sales promotion were pushed forward, with the sales in the foreign trade special zones of major e-commerce platforms exceeding 40 billion yuan since April.
