Economic Daily: Severe punishment should be imposed for selling fake diamonds on e-commerce platforms.
2-carat cultivated diamond ring sells for only 153 yuan, 99-carat imported diamond sells for only 22 yuan... Recently, some e-commerce platforms have been frequently advertising "diamonds" for just a hundred yuan, which are actually glass or synthetic cubic zirconia with a cost of only a few yuan, and come with fake certificates, forming a chain of counterfeiting of "fake diamonds + fake certificates". Such behavior not only seriously infringes on consumer rights, disrupts market order, but also damages the reputation of the cultivated diamond industry. In the future, e-commerce platforms need to strengthen their admission review, ensure that merchants have legal qualifications and professional appraisal capabilities, and establish a mechanism for post-sale accountability and blacklisting; regulatory authorities should strengthen cross-regional cooperation, trace and crack down on counterfeit certificate printing points, build a full-chain supervision system from source to sales, strengthen popular science propaganda about cultivated diamonds, and eliminate public misunderstandings about cultivated diamonds. In addition, consumers need to be vigilant, not easily believe in low-priced advertisements that go against common sense, and work together to maintain a healthy market environment.
