Tesla is facing an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the United States.
Tesla, owned by Musk, is facing a federal investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the United States, because the NHTSA found that the company had not reported traffic accidents as required. According to documents released by the NHTSA on Thursday, the agency's Defects Investigation Office "found multiple accident reports submitted by Tesla," with some accidents "occurring several months or even longer before the date reported to the agency." The NHTSA stated in its explanation of the investigation that the delayed reports may "stem from Tesla's data collection issues, and according to Tesla, this issue has now been resolved." The agency will conduct an "audit query" to confirm whether Tesla complied with reporting requirements, and will "assess the reasons for potential reporting delays, the extent of the delays, and the mitigation measures Tesla has developed to address these issues." In addition, the NHTSA will investigate whether Tesla has missed any previous relevant collision accidents, and whether the reports submitted to safety regulatory agencies "include all necessary and obtainable data."
