The New York Appeals Court ruled that Trump violated the law, but overturned the $464 million fraud fine.
An appellate court in New York has overturned the $4.64 billion fraud fine previously imposed on Donald Trump and his company, marking a victory for Trump in his case with the New York State Attorney General. The Manhattan appellate court, in a ruling issued on Thursday, still found Trump had violated the law by overstating the value of assets such as the Trump International Hotel and Tower penthouse, but said the fine amount was "excessive" and unconstitutional. The long-awaited ruling from the state's intermediate appellate court wipes away one of Trump's biggest financial burdens and adds new pressure on New York State Attorney General Letitia James, who is already under federal investigation for whether she infringed on Trump's legal rights in bringing the lawsuit.
