The Japanese stock market has fallen for the third consecutive day, with investors remaining cautious as central bank governors gather in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The TOPIX index fell 0.5% to 3,082.92, while the Nikkei 225 index dropped 0.4% to 42,733.87. Automobile and pharmaceutical stocks declined, while the transportation and construction sectors faced profit-taking. Meanwhile, some artificial intelligence-related stocks such as IBM attracted investors' favor after being sold off yesterday. Daiichi Sankyo suffered the largest decline in the TOPIX index, down by 6.1%. Out of the 1,679 stocks in the index, 397 rose, 1,190 fell, and 92 remained unchanged.
