Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning presided over the regular press conference on August 20th. During the meeting, a foreign journalist asked: "The US Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin, stated in a media interview that the US is satisfied with the current level of tariffs imposed on China. This is seen as a signal that the Trump administration hopes to maintain a calm relationship with China before the November tariff deadline. Does the Foreign Ministry have any comments on this?" Mao Ning responded by saying, "I suggest that you inquire with the relevant Chinese authorities for specific details. What I can say is that we hope the US can work together with China to play a constructive role in the China-US economic and trade negotiations, based on equality, respect, and mutual benefit, in order to achieve positive outcomes as agreed upon by the two countries' leaders during their phone call."
