Indian oil refiners demand Indian government to clarify Russian oil issue.
As an important source of demand for Russian crude oil, Indian refiners are seeking clarification from the New Delhi government on whether their purchases will be affected by President Trump's latest social media post. On Wednesday, US President Trump announced that he will impose a 25% tariff on goods exported from India to the US starting from August 1, and warned that there may be additional penalties due to India's continued purchase of energy from Russia. Following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022, India became a major buyer of Russian crude oil. Three sources familiar with the matter said that Indian companies purchase over 1 million barrels of Russian crude oil every day, and they hope to understand what Trump's post means for their purchases.
