HSBC Bank recently disclosed that it facilitated $54.1 billion in sustainable financing in the first half of 2025, a 19% increase from the previous year, bringing its total green finance since 2020 to $447.7 billion, gradually approaching its goal of $750 billion to $1 trillion by 2030. However, it is worth noting that just a few weeks ago, HSBC became the first major UK bank to exit the "Net Zero Banking Alliance," following a trend of withdrawals by American and Canadian counterparts. This move suggests that HSBC may be seeking greater operational space, especially in the area of fossil fuel financing. Rather than following alliance rules, the bank appears to prefer maintaining flexibility in the politically and economically sensitive energy transition.
