National Health Commission: First child is the foundation of family reproduction.

On the 30th, the State Council Information Office held a press conference to introduce the childcare subsidy system and fertility support measures. Wang Haidong, director of the Population and Family Planning Department of the National Health Commission, said at the meeting that the national childcare subsidy system will include only children in the subsidy range for two main reasons: first, one-child families are the mainstay of childcare families. More than half of the population born in China every year are only children, so including only children in the subsidy range can achieve a wide coverage of the childcare subsidy system and benefit childcare families comprehensively; second, giving birth is a major event for a family. Giving birth to a child is the starting point and foundation of family reproduction, and is also a key stage in need of special support, so providing childcare subsidies to only children can improve the family's childbirth experience, alleviate the family's childcare pressure, and also help in the family's considerations for further reproduction.
