Wang Haidong, of the National Health Commission: Overall, our country is transitioning from population growth to population decline, and efforts are being made to maintain a moderate level of fertility and population size.
Wang Haidong, director of the Population Monitoring and Family Development Department of the National Health Commission, stated at a press conference held by the State Council Information Office on July 30 that, with the development of the economy and society, China is overall transitioning from population growth to population decline. The characteristics of population aging, decreasing birth rates, and regional population disparities are becoming increasingly apparent. In order to adapt to the new situation of population development, China is accelerating the improvement of the policy system to support childbirth, continuously reducing the burden of childbirth, childcare, and education on families, promoting the construction of a fertility-friendly society, striving to maintain a moderate level of fertility and population size, in order to support the modernization of China with high-quality population development.
