Hong Kong Commerce and Economic Development Bureau: It is estimated that the number of visitors to Hong Kong will reach 49 million by 2025.
According to the Finance and Economics Channel APP, on July 30th, during a Legislative Council meeting, Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Edward Yau Tang-wah, responded to questions from lawmakers by indicating that data from the Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department shows that the provisional estimate of the total sales value of the retail industry in May 2025 was HK$31.3 billion, an increase of 2.4% compared to the previous year. This marks the end of a 14-month decline trend, indicating that the retail industry is starting to return to a growth trajectory under the overall economic recovery. The Hong Kong government is actively promoting tourism and major events projects, with approximately 24 million visitors to Hong Kong in the first half of this year, a 12% increase year-on-year. It is expected that the total number of visitors for the year will reach 49 million. In addition to the rise in local employment income and the steady growth of the mainland economy, this will further boost consumer sentiment and support the consumption market.
