The Ministry of Water Resources coordinates the dispatch of floodwaters from the East Pinghu of the Yellow River to the four lakes in the south of the Huai River for drought relief.
From July 20th to 24th, the Deng River, a tributary of the Yellow River, experienced a flood process. The water level of Dongping Lake downstream rose rapidly and exceeded the flood limit by 0.11 meters at 8:00 on the 25th. At the same time, due to the continuous lack of rainfall and inflow since July, the water level in the South Four Lakes of the Yi-Shu-Si water system in the Huai River Basin was low. At 8:00 on the 25th, the water level in the lower lake was 0.27 meters below the dead water level, making the situation of drought resistance water supply severe. In order to ensure the flood safety of Dongping Lake and coordinate the drought resistance needs of the South Four Lakes, the Yellow River and Huai River Water Conservancy Commission and the Shandong Provincial Water Resources Department closely cooperated and carefully deployed. Starting from 13:30 on July 23rd, floodwater from Dongping Lake was diverted to the South Four Lakes through the Liangji Canal to supplement drought-resistant water supply, with a planned total of approximately 50 million cubic meters of water. The Yellow River and Huai River Water Conservancy Commission closely monitored the progress of water supplementation and dispatch, dispatched working groups to guide the water diversion line, and ensured orderly and safe water supplementation, fully realizing the dual benefits of flood control and drought resistance.
