Intel: will consider canceling or suspending the development of the 14A and subsequent processes if there are no major external customers.
Intel warned on Thursday that if it is unable to find external customers to produce chips in its factories, it may have to exit the chip manufacturing business. Intel's newly appointed CEO, Pat Gelsinger, said on Thursday that the company's engineers are busy working with customers to launch its next-generation chip manufacturing process. According to the quarterly filing submitted by Intel on Thursday, customers of its 14A process are crucial to the success of the technology, and if a major customer cannot be found, it may have to completely shut down its advanced manufacturing business. Intel is the only chip manufacturer in the United States capable of producing advanced computing chips.
