The Trump administration has approved Chevron to resume oil production in Venezuela.
Chevron is regaining the ability to extract oil in Venezuela from the Trump administration. The details of the agreement are not yet clear, but prior to this, President Trump and Secretary of State Pompeo recently discussed, and last week's prisoner exchange allowed all 10 American detainees held by the Venezuelan government to be released. Chevron spokesperson Bill Turenne said, "Chevron operates globally, complying with the laws and regulations applicable to its business, as well as the sanctions framework provided by the US government, including in Venezuela." According to two sources familiar with the matter, under the agreement, the Maduro government will not receive any royalties or taxes, but the details are not yet clear. Earlier this year, the Trump administration revoked Chevron's permit to extract oil in Venezuela during the Biden era. This move received support from hardliners in the Maduro government. However, it has been criticized by oil interest groups and supporters of MAGA like Laura Loomer, who warn that this move will weaken US energy influence in the region.
