Data released by the Korean Statistics Department on the 23rd showed that from July 2024 to May 2025, the monthly birth rate in South Korea has continued to increase for 11 consecutive months, and the number of marriage registrations is also showing an increasing trend. The Korean newspaper "Hankyoreh" cited this set of statistical data to report that there were 20,309 newborns in South Korea in May, a 3.8% increase compared to the same period last year, setting a record for the highest year-on-year growth rate in the same month since 2011, and exceeding 20,000 people for two consecutive months. From January to May this year, the number of newborns in South Korea was 106,048, an increase of 6.9% compared to the same period last year, also setting a record for the highest growth rate in the same period since the relevant statistics began in 1981. An official from the Korean Statistics Department told reporters from the Yonhap News Agency, "The rise in the birth rate seems to be related to the continuous increase in the number of marriages and the increase in the number of women in their 30s of childbearing age." Analysts believe that the simultaneous increase in marriage registrations and newborns is related to various factors such as policies implemented by various levels of the Korean government to encourage marriage and childbirth.
